The harsh Arizona sun beats down on a sweltering afternoon as Marion Crane, restless and desperate, makes a life-altering decision. $40,000, entrusted to her by Tom Cassidy, burns a hole in her purse, a silent promise of a new life with Sam Loomis. Marion Crane, desperate to escape her mundane life and start anew with her lover Sam Loomis, impulsively steals $40,000 from her employer. During her escape to Fairvale, California, a heavy downpour forces her to seek refuge at the secluded Bates Motel, managed by the quiet and peculiar Norman Bates.
